At The Mindful Plate, the nature of what I do means you may share personal — sometimes quite personal — information with me: your health history, your eating habits, results from blood tests you'd like to discuss, and more. I take that seriously. This page explains what I collect, why, how I protect it, and what rights you have over it, in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Data Privacy and Protection

1. What I collect

  • When you book a session or programme, you'll be asked to complete a secure Google Form — I don't collect health information or personal details over WhatsApp or social media messaging.
  • This may include: your name and contact details; health history and medical background relevant to nutrition (existing conditions, medications, family history you choose to share); dietary habits, food diaries, and lifestyle information; blood test results or other health data you choose to discuss with me; notes I take during and between sessions; and payment information needed to process your booking (I don't store your full card or bank details — payments go via PayNow or bank transfer directly).
  • WhatsApp may still be used for light, day-to-day scheduling or general questions between sessions, but never to collect your health information.

2. Why I collect it

  • To provide the consultation, workshop, or programme you've booked.
  • To personalise the guidance, meal plans, or recommendations I give you.
  • To follow up with you between sessions.
  • To process payment for services.
  • Only with your separate consent, to send you updates or articles from Spoon-Fed Science if you sign up for them.
  • I do not collect more than I need for these purposes, and never use your health information beyond the service you've engaged me for.

3. How I store and protect it

  • Your intake form responses are collected via Google Forms and stored in my Google Drive, protected by a strong, unique password and two-factor authentication on my Google account.
  • My laptop is also protected with device-level encryption (BitLocker).
  • As with any Google service, your information may be processed and stored on servers outside Singapore; Google maintains its own data protection and security safeguards under its Workspace/Google Data Processing Terms.
  • I take reasonable steps to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse, consistent with the PDPA's Protection Obligation.

4. Cookies and website analytics

  • This website may use cookies and basic analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to help me understand how visitors use the site — for example, which pages are viewed and how visitors found the site — so I can improve it over time.
  • Any such information is anonymised or aggregated where possible, and kept separate from the personal or health information described above unless you separately submit it through the intake form.
  • If you'd prefer not to be tracked by analytics tools, you can adjust your browser settings or use a cookie-blocking extension.

5. Who I share it with

  • I do not sell or rent your personal data to anyone. In most cases, your information stays between us.
  • The one exception is the Domestic Helper Nutrition Programme: with your explicit consent as a participant, I prepare a short written report for your employer, summarising what you've learned during the course — shared only after you've agreed to it.
  • I may also disclose information where required by law, or to professional advisers (e.g. my accountant, for invoicing) bound by their own confidentiality obligations.

6. How long I keep it

  • I keep client records for the duration of our working relationship, plus 5 years, in line with my own recordkeeping obligations as a business in Singapore.
  • After that, your information is securely deleted.

7. Your rights

  •  Under the PDPA, you can ask me what personal data I hold about you, ask me to correct any inaccurate data, and withdraw your consent to my collecting, using, or disclosing your data (though this may mean I'm no longer able to provide certain services to you).
  • To make any of these requests, contact me at karolina@themindfulplate.net..

8. Data Protection Officer

  • As required under the PDPA, I've designated a Data Protection Officer for this business: Dr Karolina Piekarska, karolina@themindfulplate.net.

9. Changes to this page

  • I may update this page from time to time as my business or the law changes. The most current version will always be posted here.
